Laurie Smith (Minhas) graduated with academic honors in Dental Hygiene from Cambrian College in 2001. In her 17 years of clinical practice she obtained authorization to provide local anesthetic; administer nitrous oxide/oxygen conscious sedation, provide orthodontic services and prescribe limited schedule one drugs. She has taken extensive laser training. Laurie is the president of the Perio Laser Institute and conducts soft tissue laser education for hygienists.
Her primary position has been in periodontal therapy. She has worked in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta. She also worked in Houston, Texas for two years training with a naturopathic dentist and doctor. She is a member in good standing with the IAOM (International Association of Orofacial Myology) and is also currently finishing the Orofacial Myology certification program. Laurie serves as Past President for the governing body of the CRDHA (College of Registered Hygienists of Alberta) and fulfills specific roles and responsibilities set out in the Health Professions Act ensuring public protection.

Jessica Blayden graduated from Weber State University with honors in Dental Hygiene. She has been a dental hygienist for 14 years practicing in San Diego CA, and now currently practices in Utah.
She has been using the laser in her daily hygiene regimen for the past 9 years. She has completed Mastership status in the World Clinical Laser Institute in the area of diode lasers. She also has her Standard Proficiency and is working on the third part of the Advanced Proficiency with the Academy of Laser Dentistry. She is also a member and on the Auxiliary board within the Academy of Laser Dentistry. Jessica speaks and conducts hygiene Soft Tissue Diode Course for Perio Laser Institute all throughout the country and internationally. She also speaks for a variety of other laser manufacturers, hygiene seminars and conducts in- office training for private dental practices.
This last year she helped launch a patent pending product through Orascoptic called Laser Loupes. Jessica was asked to write a book on ‘Soft Tissue Lasers in Dental Hygiene’ by one of the major publishers within the United States and this textbook has now has entered universities all over the country.
Jessica Blayden loves the LASER! One of her favorite things about the laser is doing presentations to inform and excite other hygienists about this new concept in the hygiene world. She says “it brings hygienists to a fresh level and an enhanced standard of care for their patients”.
